Hygiene Radar

Terms, Privacy & Refunds

The plain-English version. If anything here is unclear, email me and ask.

Terms of service

Last updated September 2026

Hygiene Radar is a trading name of Jasmine Hughes, a sole trader in England. You can reach me at digest@hygieneradar.co.uk, or by post at Wessex House, Pixash Lane, Keynsham, Bristol, BS31 1TP. By subscribing you agree to these terms.

What the service is

Hygiene Radar watches the Food Standards Agency's public food hygiene database and emails you, once a week, the food businesses in the local authorities you've chosen that have newly been given a rating of 0, 1 or 2. That's it – I tell you who's newly failed. Any contact you make with those businesses is entirely your own; I never contact them, and I don't act on your behalf.

What I don't promise

Your account and fair use

Price and changes

Current plans and prices are shown on the website. I may change the service or its prices; if I change the price of your plan I'll give you reasonable notice by email before it takes effect, and you're free to cancel before it does. I may suspend or withdraw the service, in which case I'll refund any period you've paid for but not received.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for any loss of profit, business or opportunity arising from your use of, or reliance on, the digest, or from any inaccuracy or omission in the underlying database. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited. My total liability to you in any event is limited to the fees you've paid me in the previous three months.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes fall to its courts.

Privacy policy

Last updated September 2026

This explains what personal data I hold, why, and your rights under UK GDPR. The data controller is Jasmine Hughes, trading as Hygiene Radar; contact digest@hygieneradar.co.uk.

What I collect

Why I'm allowed to (lawful basis)

The food businesses named in the digest are taken from a public government database; that's public information, not data I collect about you.

Who I share it with

Only the suppliers that run the service on my behalf, under their own data-protection terms:

As Hygiene Radar grows I may add other providers – for example, a service to send the weekly digest, and a database to manage subscriptions – and I'll update this page before I do. Some providers may process data outside the UK; where they do, they rely on the safeguards UK data law requires. I don't sell your data, and I don't send you marketing you didn't ask for.

How long I keep it

For as long as you're a subscriber, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet my tax and accounting obligations, after which I delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

You can ask me to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or stop using it in certain ways. Email me and I'll sort it. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though I'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Refunds & cancellation

Last updated September 2026

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time by emailing me at digest@hygieneradar.co.uk. When you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of the month you've already paid for, and then simply stops. I don't take further payments after that.

Your 14-day right to change your mind

Because this is a digital service, you have 14 days from subscribing to cancel – this is your statutory right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Your first weekly digest arrives on the Monday after you subscribe, which falls inside those 14 days, so by subscribing you're asking me to begin the service during the cancellation period and you agree to that. If you cancel within the 14 days, I'll refund what you've paid, minus a fair amount for any digests I've already sent you. This 14-day right runs once, from when you first subscribe; it doesn't restart each month.

Part-months and renewals

Outside the 14-day right, I don't give partial refunds for the remainder of a month once it's under way – but you keep full access until that month ends. If something goes wrong at my end and you don't receive a digest you paid for, tell me and I'll make it right, with a refund if that's fairest.

How to reach me

For anything to do with cancelling, refunds or your plan, email digest@hygieneradar.co.uk and a real person – me – will reply.
